📝 About Game

Metro Awakening, launched on November 7, 2024, is a VR‑exclusive, single‑player first-person adventure set within the Metro franchise. You play as Serdar, a doctor in 2028 Moscow who ventures into the claustrophobic, subterranean Metro tunnels in search of his missing wife and vital medicine. The journey is both gripping and surreal—a slow-burning exploration of grief, spiritual transformation, and post‑apocalyptic survival. Built with Unreal Engine 5, Metro Awakening delivers atmospheric lighting, detailed environments, and immersive audio that fully leverage VR’s strengths. But unlike larger Metro titles, its scope is intentionally intimate: tight, dark corridors, minimal interaction with the outside world, and limited but meaningful interactive mechanics. Players must manually manage a flashlight with crank charging, gas mask filters, ammunition scarcity, and intermittent health syringes—capturing the tension of survival horror in VR. Combat is slow-paced and tactical. You can choose stealth or confront foes using handcrafted firearms, but ammo is precious. Enemy AI can be surprisingly perceptive in shadows, so staying hidden often matters more than brute force. Mutants and human threats are tense adversaries; fights are intimate and terrifying in close quarters. The narrative—penned by Metro creator Dmitry Glukhovsky—reveals the origin of Khan, the mystical figure from the main Metro games. Through 12 chapters, the story explores themes of supernatural presence, hallucination, loss, and redemption. Serdar encounters spirits, visions, and a malevolent entity known as the “great worm” that consumes souls within the Metro. The emotional journey culminates in revelations about identity and sacrifice. Although praised for its immersive experience and mood, the game received mixed reviews due to performance quirks on PC VR and a slower pacing than franchise veterans. Still, for VR players craving story‑heavy, claustrophobic intensity, Metro Awakening delivers a haunting, unforgettable descent into Metro’s darkest corners.
